An old man tells his story to his grandchild - the story of an orphan who gets thrown out of the workhouse and fell in with a gang of pickpockets and then sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit. He had once told this story to the young Charles Dickens and it became the inspiration for "Oliver Twist".
